World's Largest Surf Lesson in aid of the Niall Mellon Township Trust

On Saturday August 23rd, a bid will be made to hold the world’s largest ever surf lesson on Tullan Strand, Bundoran, Co. Donegal. The Tullan Strand surf lesson is part of a full day of events. There will be live music at the beach beginning at 12pm with The Blizzards, Red Kid, Onya, The Dead Flags and many more. The surf lesson will take place at 5.30pm. The evening will conclude at the Chasin’ Bull Bar with a beach party night, featuring local superstars Inuendo.

Everyone is invited to participate in Ireland’s largest surf lesson. The lesson will be orchestrated by local surf schools, Donegal Adventure Centre, Turf n Surf, Bundoran Surf Companyand Surf World surf shop. Participants are asked to fill out sponsorship cards to raise money for the Niall Mellon Township Trust in advance. Sponsorship cards are available from any of the above surf schools, see the contact page for more details

The Niall Mellon Township Trust was established in 2002, and the aim of the trust is to provide homes for those living in dire conditions in South Africa. Each year, hundreds of Irish volunteers go to South Africa and participate in a ‘building blitz’. In 2008, Carol and Seamus Fallon from Bundoran, Co. Donegal will travel to South Africa as part of this project. Monies raised by the Tullan for the Township event will help them raise the minimum 5,000 euro each they are required to raise. This will be Seamus’s third year volunteering, and Carol’s second. They are gladly supported in their efforts by Bundoran, and Donegal, and we encourage you to join in this support.

The Guinness Book Of Records has agreed to consider the largest surf lesson as a legitimate bid for a world record. Bundoran, long recognized as the surf capital of Ireland, is an ideal location for this attempt. All of the surf instructors at Bundoran Surf Co, Turf n Surf and Donegal Adventure Centre will be volunteering, and will provide boards, wetsuits and lifeguarding on the day. This is a fantastic opportunity to enjoy a great day at the beach, to be part of a world record event, and to contribute to a very worthy cause.
